With the advent of high performance computers and new technologies in computation and experiment, research on strongly nonlinear hydrodynamics is currently attracting much attention and a large amount of work is being carried out in different fields. For example, in naval architecture and ocean engineering, slamming, green-water impact on deck, sloshing, damaged ship survivability, etc. are strongly nonlinear phenomena of engineering importance, and great advances are expected. This is also true in many other engineering fields were violent liquid flows exist: automotive (sloshing, aquaplaning…), aeronautics (ditching, sloshing…), processes, etc.
In this context, the numerical simulation appears as a crucial tool for
engineers and dedicated novel methods have to be developed to cope with
these complex nonlinear problems. Latest advances regarding these new
methods will be presented at the conference, including emerging
immersive/interactive simulation techniques of these flows. The
development of these techniques is especially encouraged by the
European Commission through the funding of the FP7 project NextMuSE
which supports the Violent Flows 2012 organization.
Following the 1st edition held in Fukuoka in 2007, the 2nd International Conference on Violent Flows (VF-2012) will be held at Ecole Centrale of Nantes (France) in September 2012 .The organizing committee is willing to provide with this Conference a rich and friendly forum for discussing the latest achievements and stimulating further progress in research on strongly nonlinear hydrodynamics in all its aspects. The latter include experimental and physical modeling up to advanced numerical simulation with an emphasis on emerging immersive/interactive simulation techniques of these flows.
